Three players from Saracens Girls u18s had their very own Olympic experience when they represented the South West Schools at the annual UK School Games
which this year were held at the Olympic Park in London.Abbie Brown, Chelsea Chamberlain and Lucy Nye played in the seven a side rugby tournament and came away with silver medals after a closely contested final. The school games are normally held in the autumn but this year they were moved forward and took place in the Olympic Park to test out all the venues prior to Olympic Games themselves to ensure that everything worked properly and ran smoothly for the real thing which takes place later in the year. The girls are the first girls from the club to play in the school games, hopefully they will be the first of many in the years to come. Who knows one day we may have one of our players in the Olympic Games themselves as from 2016 rugby 7s becomes an Olympic event after being included in the Commonwealth Games for some time. While on the subject of the Olympic Games, former Saracens player Garnet Mackinder will be one of the runners carrying the Olympic Torch when it arrives in Exeter this coming Sunday, 20th May.
