Exeter Saracens (5 -v- 5) Ivybridge
A cold and sunny morning greeted a Saracens side keen to capitalise on last weeks wins over Exmouth. Ivybridge were the first opponents of the morning and the side were very closely matched, providing an enthralling game. Ivybridge showed their intention early on with some controlled passing and quick running to cross first.
Playing uphill Sarries camped themselves in the Ivybridge half but despite huge pressure from Will Spry and Jake Poulton they just couldn't convert the effort into a score. Just before half time an eight man drive saw a smiling Ethan Maltby emerge from the bottom of the pile claiming the try. The second half was again full of committed tackles rolling mauls and some good handling skills. Both teams determination made sure that the scores remained level until the final whistle.
Exeter Saracens (15 -v- 5) Kingsbridge
A fter watching a well drilled Kingsbridge take apart the Ivybridge side Sarries had just draw against, it looked like Sarries could be in for the same treatment. However this was not the case with Sarries stepping up their game and applying enormous pressure to disrupt the disciplined Kingsbridge line. Luke Herbert's individual effort saw Sarries take an early lead, this was capitalised on with Freddie Herring's dogged determination seeing him side step his way to the line. Both Toby Bignell and Toby Pike gave a master class in tackling skills to contain Kingsbridge's attacks and made sure they only crossed on one occasion. Another Sarries strong rolling maul saw Toby Bignell once again in the thick of it to score the 3 rd try and seal the victory.
Exeter Saracens (15 -v- 15) Ivybridge
The second encounter against Ivybridge saw honours even once again as we were treated to some end to end rugby with neither side able to stretch away. Strong direct running from Aiden Vaughan-Ryall and support play from Danny Bennett saw Ollie Burroughs speed through the defence and go over in the corner. Ivybridge came back immediately with a score of their own. But this only spurred on Rhys Mullin with his direct approach trundling over just before half time. After the break Ivybridge were quick to level things up but Jack Verge's well timed pass put Will Spry into space to score a first-rate try. Despite a strong defence, try as they might, Sarries were unable to keep Ivybridge from levelling things up just before the final whistle.
