U16's - Match Report (07/03/10)
Wiveliscombe - Away (Won 7-57)
Gosh it was cold when Sarries visited the oldest amateur rugby club in England on Sunday when they travelled to Wiveliscombe for their game at the weekend. The pitch thawed enough for the game to go ahead with both side looking forward to the match. Wivelsicombe started the stronger and won most of the ball in first couple of minutes. It was Sarries who then settled and started to dominate the scrums taking the first 3 against the head. Alec Wheeler capitalised for the visitor for the first score. The Saracens forwards began to take charge and it was Wheatley who crossed again to keep the score board ticking over. Sam Gibbins kick the conversion. Sarries continued to dominate with both forwards and backs of loading well. Saracens also began to take charge of the loose exchanges and it was Ben Shires who scored their 3rd try following some fine passing involving Lewis Watts and Wheatley. Saracens turned the ball over again which allowed Shires to link with Wheatley who off loaded to Will Tavener who demonstrated his number one best try scoring dive when he scored under the post. Gibbins added the extra points.Pip Arnold was next to score for Saracens when he touched down following some fine passing involving most of the backs. It was Gibbins who kicked the extra points to give Saracens a 31 - 0 lead at the break.
From the restart it was the home side who started the stronger and pinned Sarries in their 22 for the first 5 minutes of the half. Saracens weathered the Storm and defended well. They broke out from their own half and it was their Captain Ben King who crashed over to give Matt Lloyd an easy conversion. Saracens continued to attack strongly and George Goode scored in the corner. From the restart the ball was fed to Matt Lloyd who kicked ahead, the ball was collected by Lewis Watts who off loaded to Lloyd who scored probably the best try of the game. Lloyd added the extra 2 points. Wivelscobe kept to the task and they scored a consolation try following several phases of attacking play. Saracens had the final say when they again turned the ball over in the scrum, Tavener fed Watts who crashed over. Huw Rosser added the extra points to give the visitors a well earned 57-7 point victory.
