U14's - Match Report (13/12/09) - DRFU Cup - First Round
Devonport Services - Away (Won 0-57)

The visitors to Plymouth were stoked up for the match which had been on and off for the previous four weeks. Both teams had suffered from lack of game time but the physical training and ball handling skills practiced during gym sessions over limbo period meant that Sarries were hungry and physically ready for the encounter against the usual brutal Devonport side.

As the game unfolded it was clear that the game was going to be a massacre with Sarries completely dominating all facets of play. In the forwards, ruck ball, the maul and the scrums were all won clinically and swiftly which enabled the ball to be spun out wide at speed.
Devonport had no answers to the physicality of the visitors forwards game and with the ball in the backs then Sarries seemed to be able to score at will, drifting through the home sides defensive lines and where needed bashing their way through and off loading out of the tackle with devastating effect.
With what seemed 90%+ share of the possession and territory Sarries took any attack that Devonport could muster, snuffed it out with precise tackling and regained the ball to go back on the charge. With the Devonport backs seemingly in complete disarray then Sarries had a try-fest! Tries from Theo Thomson (2), Fionn Wright (3), Kai Little, Owen Mugford and Ross Watts plus five successful conversions from Watts summed up a fantastic first half TEAM performance.

With the game won by half time with the score standing at 0-50, the Referee decided to open up the second half. Devonport tried to make amends with a couple of prolonged attacks on the Sarries line but with Man of the Match Hallum Curran ripping the ball out of a maul and feeding Little then Sarries broke away leaving their line intact and unbreached. With Watts claiming his second try of the morning and slotting the conversion the conclusion was drawn on the match as the referee bought the match to a close five minutes into the second half giving the visitors a resounding victory in a match that had been eagerly waited for by all concerned.

Devonport were still fighting come the end but were without doubt beaten fairly and squarely on the day by a far superior team which ensured that the form book would have to be rewritten. Every travelling Exeter Saracens player could be proud of an excellent display of well disciplined, thought-out, supportive and devastating rugby that left the opposition completely dumbfounded.
