U14's - Match Report (25/10/09)
Sidmouth - Home (Lost 5-49)

Exeter Saracens did not fire on all cylinders in the match which history would indicate is usually a close run affair.

Sidmouth looked hungry and ready for battle where as Sarries seemed content to just go through the motions. That being said it was Sarries first out of the blocks with a planned switch move off of the back of a scrum which saw Ross Watts pound through the gap created and sprint to the line to score. The blustery conditions put paid to the kick as soon as it was taken by Jack Hamlyn.
Sidmouth then opened up and simply dominated the rest of the half with the wind to their backs. Saracens tackling was uncharacteristically off beat and the whole teams rucking positively dire. Sidmouth thrived on the missed tackles and took their chances as and when they arose. Before the half was completed the visitors had run in four tries one of which was converted. The first half was closed out with a successful penalty kick taken at distance by Sidmouth.
(Half Time - 5-25)

Sarries put up a bit of a better fist of things in the second half with the wind now in their favour. The squad tried to click into their regular playing pattern but Sidmouth were very disruptive and physical at the breakdowns which took any impetus that Sarries had built up straight out of the equation. The tackling improved to a certain degree in the second half but there were still too many half hearted attempts by many. The regular fearless team enforcers were hard at work and slowed the Sidmouth attacks putting in crunching tackles repeatedly. The teams mobility around the park also did not seem to be of the standard that it usually is which left Saracens short at the breakdowns and quite often out numbered.
Despite the pressure that Saracens applied Sidmouth always controlled the situation well in defence and also capitalised well on any break away that they could engineer. The visitors ran in four further tries in the second half, two of which were converted. Full credit to the home side, they stuck at it and kept pushing to the last but Sidmouth out played Sarries in nearly every area of the game and crucially did not allow Saracens to play their style of rugby.
