U15's Girls - Match Report (13/12/09)
Plymouth/Cullompton/Exmouth - Home
This was the Sarries girls first game since 1st.November as the recent run
of bad weather has seen all fixtures cancelled. The club took no chances for
todays games by moving the venue to St Lukes High School and Saracens would
like to thank both the school and Carillion for making this possible. The
only good thing about the long lay off is that the majority of Saracens
injured players were able to take the time to recover from injuries and were
now ready and raring to play rugby again as Saracens hosted Plymouth Albion,
Cullompton and Exmouth.
Exeter Saracens (15 -v- 15) Plymouth Albion/Cullompton
This was a very entertaining game involving two contrasting styles of play,
the visitors were very direct and used their forwards very well and the home
team throwing the ball around and scoring through their backs. Lucy Nye once
again used her pace to race through and score to put Sarries in the lead.
The visitors bounced back and scored and put a lot of pressure on Sarries
but some good tackling kept them from scoring. Some good exchanges through
the backs put Kayley Pyatt clear and she sprinted home to score her first
ever try for the club. Again the visitors came back and scored. They then
took the lead when Sarries forwards dithered over a loose ball at a line out
which the opposition scooped up to score. Kayley Pyatt was again involved in
the move that led to Paige Palmer crossing for the equaliser.
Plymouth Albion/Cullompton (15 -v- 5) Exmouth/Exeter Saracens
Newcomers Exmouth borrowed some sarries girls to make up numbers and put up
a very good show against their more experienced rivals and as they game went
on made some big improvements and were rewarded with a try under the posts
after some very strong forward play.
Exeter Saracens (19 -v- 0) Exmouth/Plymouth/Cullompton
Paige Palmer and skipper Beth Griffiths both played really well in the final
game with Palmer making several strong breaks one of which resulted in a try
for her. Griffiths switched from her usual scrum half role to number 8 and
put in a tremendous amount of work in making some good tackles and turning
over ball. One taclke certainly prevented a try from being scored when
exmouth made a really good blindside break from a scrum. She was rewarded
with a try of her own after ripping a ball offan opposition player and going
nearly half the length of the field to touch down under the posts. Sarries
third try came after prop Megan Coombes caught the ball from a kick off and
exceptional strength and speed to run through to score. Griffths also added
two conversions. Again Exmouth showed lots of determination and were camped
on Sarries line for long period but just couldn't get over for the score.
This was Saracens last outing before the Christmas break so it was good to
actually get out and play and play so well across both age groups. Saracens
will keeping their fingers crossed that the weather will be a little kinder
in the new year and that they will not have to go for such a long time
without a game again. The girls next scheduled fixture is away at Newquay on
10th January.
