A much changed Saracens decided that the game against Barnstaple would be the time to revert to bad practices that the coaches thought had been resolved early on last season. Tackling was poor at best, non existent for most of the game, rucks and mauls were entered with heads far too high, pushing with hands not bodies and any ball that was won, was not used in a decisive manner. For their part Barnstaple took advantage and used their strike runners and big forwards to constantly gain ground.
