Exeter Saracens U14′s

Devon Cup Semi final
Saracens 0 v 15 Sidmouth

Sidmouth progressed to the final at Sandy Park against Topsham by utilising their big forwards to roll the ball through rucks and mauls before releasing backs. Sarries struggled to stop the Sidmouth forwards but tackled eventually. Playing with their procession Sarries did not always choose the right option, however they had 3 good opportunities from good handling moves where one on ones or even two on ones were created but stopped by the last tackler or by a tap tackle.
So Sarries fine cup run ended at the semi final stage but all coaches were pleased with the progress made.
Good luck to both Sidmouth and Topsham in the final.

Devon 7s Festival

Sarries travelled to Plymstock and played Exmouth on the first pool game. Sarries were not awake and lost the first match 26  - 12 as a consequence. The next pool game was against Services and Sarries played excellent 7s scoring 6 unanswered tries running out 34 – nil winners. In the plate quarters Sarries met Sidmouth who ran out 24 – 5 winners.

Sunday 28th April

Exeter Saracens U14′s  31 v 34  Stonehouse U14′s

Sarries final game of the season saw Stonehouse visit but due to 7 players with injuries and unavailabilities Sarries only had 14 players with Stonehouse loaning a player.
The game turned out to be Sarries using their fast powerful backs against sharks big forwards.
Time and time again Sarries tackled the 8, the prop and the 2nd row who were the main ball carriers, but numbers often were not available to tackle the next man.
Sarries backs consistently showed their pace and handling running in 5 tries through Lewis Geran 3 and 2 from Fly Half ,  Adam Cotgrove. Ben Haigh converted 3. Despite pressing Sarries could not fight back to win the match eventually losing 34 to 31 in a great game.

Exeter Saracens U8′s v Topsham U8′s

Once again 2 games were played simultaneously. It was a good test for Sarries U 8′s against a strong, quick Topsham side.

Ollie H pushed himself to always be in range of the goal line, with some fantastic support play from Jack, Tyler and Matt. Finley also made some supportive runs and read the game well but was unlucky to run out of play several times.  Tyler was talking and tagging as well as ever. Liam, Ollie S and Joseph worked very hard in defence and attack, with some weaving runs from Alfie and both Ollies. A big well done to Oakley for some good runs and passes in his first full game. Austin had one of his best performances and kept taking tags and knocks in equal amounts but refused to give in.
It shows the boys are listening to the coaches as we had 2 well fought matches both showing excellent team spirit and great communication between themselves, even when decisions were going against them.

A big well done to all – including the parents !

Proud to be Sarries !

Exeter Saracens U8′s v Torquay

Another cold Sunday morning, as normal we split into 2 teams. Torquay, a well drilled side, made it an enjoyable morning all round. There were some great attacking runs from Alfie, Matt, Will and Harry, with Liam and Dom supporting well as always. Invaluable defence from Tyler and Harry and a big well done to Finlay for direct running and support play. All in all a great day all round, especially for Jack for staying on the pitch all morning !

Ivybridge U14′s 34 v 12 Exeter Saracens U14′s

Sunday 17th February 2012

Ivybridge U14′s  34 v 12 Exeter Saracens U14′s
Saracens slumped to a defeat at Ivybridge on a sloping pitch that was not used effectively in the first half by Saracens. Despite the pack dominating scrums and rucks, poor handling, lateral movement and too high tackling allowed Ivybridge to out score sarries by 6 tries to 2. Sarries tries were scored by Chad Allery and George Holwill.

U14 Scores Sunday 24th February 2013

Torquay U14′s 0 v 62 Exeter Saracens U14′s

Saracens returned to winning ways in a 10 try victory away at Torquay on a freezing morning amid snow showers. The Saracens boys dominated the scrum and breakdown area providing great ball that the powerful pacey backs used to full advantage ripping holes in the defence consistently. Praise must go to Torquay players who never stopped trying to play and never allowed their heads to drop.
Try scorers were George Holwill with 5, Lewis Geran 2, and 1 each for Chad Allery, Billy Curran, Tom Williams. Ben Rooke converted 6 times. Boko Zhelev played his first match.

Exmouth U13′s 17 V 5 Exeter Saracens U13′s

After 3 failed attempts to play this fixture both teams finally got on the pitch on Sunday 17th February to take part in another closely contested affair, with Exmouth running out winners 17-5. Sarries try was scored in the first half by Kain Cole, who was unlucky not to be awarded another try, deemed to be held up on the line. Tom Ellis also came close to breaking the Exmouth defence, but again came up just short.
The Sarries boys would like to wish Exmouth all the best for the rest of the tournament, having earned a place in the semi final.
Next week sees the visit of Torquay to Exhibition Fields, preceeded by a trip with the Exmouth boys to Sandy Park on Saturday to watch Exeter Chiefs, courtesy of Radio Exe.

Devon Cup U14 Quarter Final

Okehampton 3 v 7 Exeter Saracens U14′s

Saracens travelled to North Tawton to play Okehampton in this cup quarter final fixture. The game was played on the back pitch which was boggy and did not help the Saracens fast backs.
Saracens took an early lead when Lewis Geran scored after recurring the ball inside his own half and after breaking through a couple of tackles outpaced the cover to go under the posts, Ben Haigh successfully converted. Shortly after a penalty needlessly conceded in their own 22 by Sarries pack allowed Oke to kick the 3 points.
With 9 minutes to go in the first half the game was halted due to a serious neck injury and the game was delayed for 30 minutes for an ambulance and safe movement from the pitch. ( understand from Oke that all ok, no lasting damage) Thanks to Richard Haigh for his on pitch care.
The delay seemed to effect Sarries more of the two sides as through the remainder of the game Oke applied the greater pressure, although Sarries had the chance to score again but chances were not taken.
Oke had a last chance to win when a penalty was conceded in Saracens 22, and the referee called last play, but after tapping, instead if running, a chip over the defence landed in goal and was gratefully touched down bringing the final whistle.
Credit must be given to the whole squad for the disruption of the Oke scrum feed, competing in rucks and mauls, for the immense tackling time and time again driving opposite numbers backwards and looking to attack every time possible.
Well played to Okehampton as well, who should be proud of themselves and how they represented their club.
A great result, on to the semis now in March

Teignmouth U13 22 v 32 Exeter Saracens U13

Exeter Saracens eventually got 2013 underway after a few postponed games with a 32-22 win against local rivals Teignmouth.
Sarries scored 3 1st half tries by David Carver and Kane Cole x2, only to trail 17-15 at half time to a much improved Teignmouth side. As so often with the Sarries boys, they came out strong for the second half, conceding only one more try, and scoring 3 more themselves through Sam Chambers, Rob Lancaster, and Callum Cross, with a conversion from Jonny Farnsworth, to run out fairly comfortable winners in the end.

As always against Teignmouth, the game was played in great spirit, a credit to both sets of coaches.

Next week, away to Exmouth.
